Job Description

About the role Permanent, full‑time Allied Support Worker position based at the Napier site. The role supports qualified Social Workers and supervisors by enabling them to concentrate on statutory duties and professional practice. It is a non‑regulated, non‑case‑management position; the incumbent performs administrative assistance, transports children, and assists with family group conference arrangements. Responsibilities Provide day‑to‑day operational support to Social Work teams on an on‑demand basis. Assist social workers with entering case notes and other information into the case management system CYRAS and related information systems. Safely transport children and young people from one location to another for appointments, school, sports and other activities. Help set up and run Family Group Conferences, including logistical and administrative tasks. Support social workers during on‑site care of children and young people when they are out of school or awaiting placement. Arrange administrative requirements for placement or programme transition of children. Assist children at school by facilitating settling in or arrangements after periods away. Conduct supervised access or visitations by driving clients, supervising contact, and writing contact notes. Perform occasional weekend and after‑hour work as required by the team. Maintain cooperative working relationships with internal staff, external partners and stakeholders. Qualifications and Experience Prior experience working in community settings, supporting people in need. Experience working with Māori and/or Pasifika communities. Demonstrated emotional resilience, sound judgement and ability to maintain professionalism under stress. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively with peers and stakeholders. Working knowledge of cross‑cultural practices, including tikanga Māori and Pacific peoples’ culture. Capability to manage sensitive and confidential information appropriately. Demonstration of understanding and commitment to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi. Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. Preferred: A recognised Social Services qualification. Essential: A clean, current full driver’s licence and willingness to use Ministry vehicles. Historic convictions may be considered on a case‑by‑case basis.
