Job Description
Role Summary The Hazardous Substances & New Organisms Group at the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) is looking for an Advisor based in Wellington. This role provides advice and support to applicants and delegated decision makers for the import and export of controlled goods, such as hazardous waste and ozone‑depleting substances, and liaises with a range of stakeholders, including submitters, other government bodies and international agencies. Responsibilities Provide advice and support to applicants and decision makers on controlled goods import and export. Liaise with stakeholders and support statutory decision‑making processes. Manage a busy workload of applications across legislation and work streams. Build strong, positive connections with customers and communicate effectively. Analyse technical material, identify risks, and communicate them simply. Work under pressure, manage multiple tasks, set priorities and deliver results within tight deadlines. Qualifications Experience in regulatory systems and environmental management or regulatory science. Relevant tertiary qualification preferred. Experience working with the Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act 1996, the Ozone Layer Protection Act, the Import and Export Restrictions Act 1988 or similar legislation. Excellent communication, relationship‑building and reporting skills. Strong attention to detail, sound judgement, common sense and a pragmatic problem‑solving approach. Self‑motivated, driven, adaptable and able to deliver under pressure. Benefits Flexible working culture. The full band range (80%‑120%) will be considered based on skills and experience, with appointments generally at or below the midpoint.
