Salary: $75,114 – $88,266 + KiwiSaver + Wellness Benefits. Wellington CBD. 2× full‑time permanent roles. About the Role We have an exciting opportunity for two Data Analysts to join the Data Service Delivery (DSD) unit, supporting MBIE's energy modelling work programme. These roles are ideal for someone at the beginning of their analytics career or looking to progress to the next level. Support delivery of the Markets Domain's energy modelling work programme. Analyse potential futures of energy supply and demand, producing analysis to inform policy development, design and monitoring. Engage stakeholders within MBIE, across Government and the energy sector to ensure analysis is accessible, well communicated and fit‑for‑purpose. Apply innovation and new ideas to keep modelling tools and methodologies updated, providing impactful insights for decision‑makers. Build expertise in the energy sector while supporting Senior Data Analysts in the team. About the Team The Data Service Delivery Unit’s Domains team delivers trusted data assets across five portfolio‑aligned data domains, partnering with the Data Science team to apply advanced analytics and machine learning. Data analyst role reports to the Data Science Manager. Responsible for the full data pipeline—from primary data collection to generating insights that inform decision‑making. Sourcing and procuring data. Producing official statistics on the energy sector. Fulfilling New Zealand’s energy sector reporting obligations to international agencies. Producing projections of energy supply, demand and greenhouse gas emissions. Undertaking modelling and analysis to inform policy development and design. We support and influence the policy debate, providing direct advice to Government and information to stakeholders and the public. Skills and Experience Required Tertiary qualification or equivalent experience in statistics, applied economics, econometrics, data science or another relevant quantitative discipline. Recent statistics graduates encouraged to apply. Strong analytical skills and ability to work with data, identify insights and communicate findings to technical and non‑technical audiences. Experience with R (or a comparable statistical programming language) and PowerBI; interest in modelling, forecasting, econometrics or related analytical methods. Background in economics, energy or public policy is an advantage. MUST have the legal right to live and work in New Zealand.
