Job Description
We are looking for a Thai Chef to join our team at Thaiger, located at 2 Surrey Crescent, Grey Lynn, Auckland. Requirements Applicants must have: At least 2 years of relevant work experience as a Chef or Cook; or a relevant NZQCF Level 4 or higher qualification. Overseas qualifications must be comparable to the standard of a New Zealand qualification. Applicants should have good knowledge of Thai ingredients, flavours, cooking methods, and food preparation techniques. Job Description The Thai Chef will be responsible for: Planning and organising the preparation and cooking of Thai dishes for daily restaurant service. Preparing and cooking Thai menu items, including curries, stir-fries, soups, rice and noodle dishes, sauces, marinades, and other Thai dishes. Assisting with menu planning and recommending menu changes (or planning special menus) based on customer demand, ingredient availability, food quality, and food costs. Estimating food and ingredient requirements and assisting with ordering kitchen supplies. Checking the quality, freshness, and suitability of ingredients before preparation and cooking. Monitoring meals to ensure consistent taste, portion size, presentation, and quality before service. Discussing food preparation, service timing, and kitchen workflow issues with management and kitchen staff. Demonstrating Thai cooking techniques and guiding junior kitchen staff where required. Ensuring food safety, hygiene, cleaning, storage, and stock rotation procedures are followed. Maintaining a clean, organised, and safe kitchen work area. Assisting with waste control and efficient use of ingredients to help manage kitchen costs. This is a full‑time, permanent position. The pay rate is between $27.00 and $40.00 gross per hour, depending on the applicant’s skills and experience, and will be paid weekly. You will work on a roster over 5 to 6 days per week, with a guaranteed minimum of 30 hours per week and a maximum of 48 hours per week. Holiday pay and sick leave will be provided according to New Zealand law.
