Job Description
Specialist Pharmacy Technician – Procurement (12‑month fixed‑term contract) Overview Middlemore Hospital, one of New Zealand’s largest tertiary teaching hospitals, seeks a motivated Specialist Pharmacy Technician with procurement experience to manage inpatient pharmacy medication procurement for Counties Manukau District. The role involves functional leadership, day‑to‑day coordination, and proactive troubleshooting to ensure medication supply for patients. Key Responsibilities Ordering and inventory control Managing master data Stock problem resolution Invoicing and finance reconciliation System troubleshooting and testing Tasks from medication safety reporting and quality improvement Collaboration with pharmacy team, other Counties staff, and external agencies such as hospitals, wholesalers, and PHARMACE Essential Qualifications & Experience National Certificate in Pharmacy (Pharmacy Technician) level 5 issued by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority; preferably with a focus on procurement, inventory, or a level 6 post‑graduate qualification. At least three years of pharmacy technician experience in a hospital or pharmaceutical industry setting, with demonstrated procurement/ inventory control experience. Knowledge of NZ Health systems and medicines. Intermediate level computer skills – MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and pharmacy systems (e.g., ePharmacy, Pyxis). Analytical, financial, organisational and planning skills. Strong problem‑solving and communication abilities. Capacity to lift and carry inventory orders up to 20kg.
