Job Description
Radiologists at Te Whatu Ora Tairawhiti make a difference in a smallcommunity, staff a modern radiology department, see unbelievablepathology, value quality over profits, and have a great work-lifebalance. The radiology service at Te Whatu Ora Tairawhiti is a small, dynamicteam looking to employ a suitability qualified Radiologist. This rolewill work collaboratively and cohesively with the radiology team toprovide effective services for the Tairawhiti region. Applicants are expected to have a general scope of radiologist skillsincluding ultrasound, MRI and CT. The Department is hospital based andprovides a mix of inpatient, emergency and outpatient imaging for acommunity of approximately 47,000 people. Time is split with 70%clinical responsibilities and 30% non-clinical. It is expected that youwill also participate in the on call roster which is currently an ‘athome call’ one in four nights. Day to day responsibilities include interpreting exams, triaging andprotocoling imaging requests, consulting with referring clinicians, andsupporting the radiology technology staff. Light intervention andmammography are optional. There are opportunities to teach local medicaland surgical house officers as well as radiology registrars within theMidlands Region. We are looking to receive applications from people who are keen towork in a partnership with our Head of Department and other team membersto develop new imaging services and work on continuous improvementwithin our Radiology Department. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to be part of anew era at Gisborne Hospital with the commencement of a state-of-the-artmedical imaging research centre based at the hospital. The MātaiMedical Research Institute centre focuses on mild traumatic braininjury, among other things, and could make Gisborne a world-leadingcentre in MRI. To be successful you must have the following Medical Council of NewZealand (MCNZ) Vocational registration in the Scope of Practice ofDiagnostic and interventional radiology or be an overseas trainedRadiologist eligible for MCNZ registration under the Special Scope ofPractice Locum Tenens category.
