About the Role We have an exciting opportunity to join the supportive Occupational Therapy team at Christchurch Hospital. This permanent full‑time position is based at Christchurch Health Campus and primarily works within the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), providing specialist occupational therapy assessment and intervention for critically unwell patients. The ICU service is a dynamic and rewarding area of practice where Occupational Therapists play a key role in supporting early rehabilitation, functional assessment, cognitive screening, family/whānau engagement, and facilitating recovery following critical illness. You will work closely with an experienced interdisciplinary team to optimise patient outcomes from the earliest stages of admission through to discharge planning and transition of care. Responsibilities Provide comprehensive multidisciplinary and occupational therapy based assessments, patient‑centred goal setting, therapeutic interventions, and education to whānau, friends and IDT colleagues. Work with patients from diverse social and cultural backgrounds and collaborate with whānau, the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure the best outcomes. Delegate clinical tasks to Allied Health Assistants. Identify service needs and contribute toward quality improvement initiatives. Participate in patient‑centred discharge planning. Mentor and supervise other colleagues within the wider Occupational Therapy service. Contribute to the weekend roster on a regular basis. About You You will be passionate about acute and critical care rehabilitation and enjoy working in a fast‑paced team environment. You will have a genuine interest in helping patients recover from critical illness and be motivated to grow your specialist skills within ICU practice. You will be well supported with mentoring, supervision and professional development to grow as an occupational therapist and progress in your career. Skills & Experience Sound clinical assessment and problem‑solving skills. Recent proven experience working in ICU or neurology inpatient settings. Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively, develop positive interpersonal relationships, and work flexibly within the inter‑disciplinary team. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Strong clinical reasoning skills and use of evidence‑informed practice. Effective time management, organisational and prioritisation skills. Experience with discharge planning. Willingness to engage in quality improvement work. Clinical experience in an acute hospital environment is an advantage. Willingness to learn and share your learning. Registration with the NZ Occupational Therapy Board and current Annual Practicing Certificate. Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or commitment to developing this capacity.
