Job Description
About the Role The Financial Accountant will support the Financial Accounting Team by completing month-end processes and monthly General Ledger Balance Sheet reconciliations for the Crown and the Department. They will clear outstanding items to ensure reported results are complete and accurate. All work is validated through a multi‑layered peer‑review and sign‑off process. Role requires a deep subject‑matter expertise to provide advice that increases the understanding of financial accounting management within the Ministry. Salary and Employment Annual salary of $85,537–$101,911, depending on experience. Full‑time permanent position, Wellington based. Qualifications and Experience Proven experience in financial accounting within a medium to large organisation. High professional standards and a performance‑driven approach. Clear communication of technical information in plain language. Ability to establish and maintain successful working relationships. Knowledge of the public sector financial management environment, including relevant statutes such as the Public Finance Act, Government policy, and Treasury guidelines. Technical accounting knowledge related to PBE IPSAS, PBE IFRS, and other relevant NZ GAAP applicable accounting standards. Extensive experience in reconciliations, control, process improvement, risk management, and a focus on integrity. Chartered Accountant qualification or being on track to achieve full qualification is desirable. Legal right to live and work in New Zealand. Consent to and satisfactory completion of a credit check.
