Job Description

As a Software Engineer in our Technology&Data team you will design, build, and integrate the specialised applications that keep the GCSB and NZSIS operating efficiently. Working closely with stakeholders, you will turn customer ideas into clear design plans, pick the right commercial or partner tools, and weave them together so everything works seamlessly. You will also maintain and improve existing systems, ensuring they remain reliable, well‑documented, and aligned with our security and accreditation standards. Key Responsibilities: Collaborate with stakeholders to convert ideas into detailed design specifications. Evaluate, procure, and integrate commercial or partner tools that meet functional and security requirements. Develop new features or whole components when commercial solutions are unsuitable, including test planning and user‑acceptance activities. Monitor emerging technologies and recommend enhancements that improve capability or efficiency. Produce clear support guides and maintain up‑to‑date documentation for certification, accreditation, and operational hand‑over. Diagnose and resolve defects, optimise performance, and apply patches to existing codebases. Serve as a technical advisor to other teams, explaining system architecture and best‑practice usage to maximise overall system value. You must: Have been a New Zealand Citizen for at least 10 years Hold a current NZ Residency Class Visa and ideally have been a citizen of the UK, USA, Canada or Australia for at least 10 years Be eligible to obtain a Top Secret Special (TSS) security clearance.
