About the job Collaborative and impactful role: specifically responsible for teaching mental health nursing across undergraduate and postgraduate nursing programmes. Fixed‑term, part‑time (0.8 FTE) at AUT’s North Campus (Akoranga). The opportunity We have a fixed‑term, part‑time (30 hours per week) opportunity for a Kaiwhakaako – Lecturer/Senior Lecturer to make a significant impact and develop career in teaching, research and service. This role will have a specific responsibility for teaching mental health nursing across the undergraduate and postgraduate Nursing programmes in the Faculty of Health and Environmental Sciences. We are committed to integrating cultural safety into curriculum delivery. We are open to expertise across relevant areas; particularly interested in applicants who will co‑design and implement the undergraduate and postgraduate nursing programmes. The department commits to a Te Tiriti curriculum with the successful applicant collaborating on kaupapa Māori and interweaving mātauranga aligned with the competencies of Te Kaunihera Tiaki Niho o Aotearoa. The Kaiwhakaako will contribute to existing mātauranga Māori and be supported to share mahi with other Māori working in this space. As an academic staff member, you’ll blend teaching, research and engagement to create impactful outcomes. You’ll work closely with students, collaborate across disciplines and contribute to projects with industry and community partners. Demonstrate cultural humility, awareness and respect when engaging with indigenous peoples and culturally diverse communities. Experience supporting indigenous, equity, or inclusion focused initiatives is highly desirable. Teaching responsibilities Teach mental health nursing across undergraduate and postgraduate Nursing programmes. Contribute to curriculum development and continuous improvement of course delivery. Use digital resources to enhance learning. Research and engagement Publish actively in your specialised field(s). Build and expand a research programme; seek and attract external research funding. Evidence of innovation in teaching and satisfactory student evaluations (max. 2 pages). Criteria Qualification: PhD in a related health field. Registered Nurse in Aotearoa New Zealand. Teaching: Early‑career academic with teaching assistant experience; experienced lecturer with curriculum development evidence and preferably Masters/PhD supervision. Research: Early‑career academic with solid research pipeline and job‑market paper; experienced candidate with track record, publications and external funding experience. Salary Ranges Lecturer: $92,000 – $110,000 per annum (pro‑rata). Senior Lecturer: $113,000 – $148,000 per annum (pro‑rata). Salary commensurate with skills and experience.
