Civil Materials Laboratory Cadet or Technician – Nelson Laboratory Our Nelson Laboratory supports Aotearoa’s infrastructure by testing civil engineering materials such as aggregates, soils, concrete, and bitumen. This entry‑level opportunity is ideal for someone with no prior laboratory experience; full training will be provided. You will work in both laboratory and field environments, contributing to projects that help shape community infrastructure. Key responsibilities Assist with material testing and quality control procedures. Record data accurately and maintain laboratory documentation. Support field visits and sample collection as needed. Help with equipment set‑up, operation, and basic maintenance. Qualifications and requirements Experience in labour or trades‑based roles (construction, roading, warehousing, farming) is advantageous. Strong physical fitness and ability to safely handle heavy materials and equipment. Basic computer skills and confidence following digital instructions. Team player with good communication skills. Willingness to travel and work overtime when required. Full, clean New Zealand driver’s licence. Full, unrestricted working rights in New Zealand. Applicants must be eligible for work rights in New Zealand; the role does not sponsor visa. Reference and background checks, including criminal record and driver licence checks, will be conducted for preferred candidates. The position may involve occasional overtime and travel.
