Job Description

Overview Head Medical is seeking resident doctors for Psychiatry opportunities located in the Bay of Plenty region. This role is suitable for a post-foundation doctor possessing a minimum of 6 months experience in Psychiatry, ready to deepen clinical experience in a supportive, hands-on environment while enjoying beaches, coastal living, and a vibrant cultural community. Responsibilities Liaising with GPs, nursing staff, psychologists, patients, and families Attending psychiatry and psychology meetings Managing both inpatient and outpatient services Gaining exposure to mental health and addiction services Contract & Location The Bay of Plenty region is served by Tauranga Hospital (359-bed Level 2 facility) and Whakatāne Hospital (110-bed rural hospital). The Psychiatry teams are supportive, collaborative, and include experienced consultants, registrars, house officers, psychologists, social workers, and community mental health professionals. You will rotate through inpatient and community-based services, attend regular multidisciplinary meetings, and participate in cultural competency training with a focus on Māori mental health. The teams are focused on teaching, equity in healthcare, and fostering a nurturing space for resident doctors to grow clinically and professionally. This is a 12-month contract emphasizing equity and access. Location: Tauranga and Whakatāne, with access to beaches, forests, and coastal lifestyle. Salary: NZD 101,492 – 137,020 per annum (commensurate with experience). The Location The Bay of Plenty is known for its white sandy beaches, warm climate, and laid-back lifestyle.
