Job Description
About the Role We are looking for a senior specialist, ideally with experience in the petroleum or natural resources sector, to play a lead role in the permitting, decommissioning and offshore renewable energy regimes. This senior role sits within Resource Markets at MBIE which leads the management and responsible development of New Zealand's natural resources sector. It directly supports the Manager, Petroleum and Offshore Renewable Energy Operations, and works effectively with others across Resource Markets to ensure legislative requirements, regulatory efficiencies and strategic directions are met. The Senior Advisor Petroleum and Offshore Renewable Energy will call on a set of core competencies including interpreting and applying complex legislation, leading multiple, complex pieces of work concurrently with minimal supervision, using advanced critical thinking to identify risk and implement effective solutions, and demonstrating proven leadership, coaching and mentoring skills. Excellent communication skills and a collaborative working style are required as the role will work across various teams within MBIE and externally with oil and gas companies, other government agencies, and iwi. Skills and Experience Required 5 or more years’ experience in a regulatory role is desirable Relevant tertiary qualification, such as a geoscience or engineering discipline Extensive commercial regulation and industry experience desirable Must have the legal right to live and work in New Zealand.
