About the Role This position is a dynamic, high-pressured, and full responsibility. The DNM plays a pivotal role in ensuring that hospital wards and departments operate smoothly, safely, and efficiently over a 24‑hour period, especially during evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays when senior leadership may not be present. Over a 24‑hour period you will provide: Leadership: Providing visible, calm, and confident leadership across the hospital. Decision‑Making: Balancing clinical needs with operational realities. Problem Solving: Quick thinking in emergencies or conflict situations. Support: Advocating for staff well‑being and patient safety. Communication: Liaising between departments and levels of seniority. Managing staff shortages and patient overload. Emotional strain of dealing with critical incidents. No typical day – priorities can shift in minutes. Rewards Making real‑time decisions that impact patient outcomes. Supporting and mentoring junior staff. Keeping the hospital functioning under pressure. About the Team/Service/ Location The DNM team are part of the IOC and are responsible for the effective operational management of the 24‑hour/7‑day hospital service delivery at both Wellington Regional Hospital and Kenepuru Hospital. The IOC supports clinical teams, systems, processes and resources that facilitate safe and effective service delivery across the organisation.
