Job Description
About the role Partly has offices in London (UK), Christchurch, Auckland (NZ) and Austin (Texas). Wherever you are based, we will connect you with the nearest office for onboarding and fly you to join the full team for our quarterly "Season Openers" (we cover travel and accommodation). If you are relocating to join us, we can assist with relocation costs. This position will be based in our Christchurch or Auckland office. Partly’s mission is to connect the world’s parts and we are building the first global platform for replacement parts, starting with auto parts. We are founded by former Rocket Lab engineers and utilise cutting‑edge technology to solve challenging problems in the $1.9 trillion parts industry. Responsibilities Own a product surface from ideation through to production, shipping code and shipping feature metrics. Prototype new product iterations yourself using AI‑assisted and LLM‑assisted tooling, fast and disposable. Ship production code, instrument it, and observe real‑world usage. Spend time where the work happens to understand customers’ workflows and pain points. Reconcile signal from customer feedback and data, and translate insights into next‑step improvements. Own the outcome of the surface, steering priority by metrics and explaining decisions, including when to say no. Make product‑engineering trade‑offs, finding cheaper paths to the same outcome. Build agentic experiences that move users from manual operation toward supervised delegation, earning trust gradually. Maintain a fast, clear, considered surface; push back when something feels wrong. Raise the bar by partnering with software engineers on broader systems work, contributing shared components and product craft. Qualifications Non‑negotiables Ship end‑to‑end features with code, with clear accountability for whether they worked, averaging 3+ years in production software shipping. Demonstrated genuine customer obsession with a habit of spending deep time with users in their work context. Product taste and craft, focused on high‑stakes, high‑pressure workflows for non‑technical users. Point of view on agentic product design: how an experience shifts from manual operation to supervised delegation and earns user trust gradually. Experience prototyping rapidly with AI‑assisted tools as a first instinct. Solid full‑stack engineering foundation with a frontend focus, delivering production quality code with sound fundamentals. Trade‑off fluency: weighing product impact against engineering effort to find cheaper routes. Strong analytical instinct: defining metrics, building views, reading data, and acting without waiting for a data team. Comfort operating well in ambiguity and autonomy, shaping problems rather than waiting for a spec. Strong signals we look for Shipped AI‑assisted or agent‑driven features in production, especially where the human stays in the loop. Built for a multi‑persona, operational or workflow‑heavy B2B product. Founder background, or early employee at a startup that scaled materially. Reinvented or radically changed a belief‑based process, with an explanation of why. Domain knowledge in automotive, parts aftermarket, repair or insurance claims. Marketplace or network experience, from either demand or supply side. Understand Rust or a strong eagerness to learn it, as it is part of our stack. How you’ll think and operate We seek individuals who demonstrate ownership, speed, and judgment in practice. Examples of the type of thinking we expect include: Spending a single afternoon prototyping a fix, having shops test it by Friday. Choosing to ship a two‑day version that answers the real question over a polished three‑week build. Acting on usage data, explaining the meaning, and iterating accordingly. Taking responsibility for the surface’s experience and driving concrete improvements. Speed, ownership, and judgment are baseline requirements; genuine empathy for the customer and the ability to translate that empathy into effective software are the differentiators. Benefits Healthy, catered lunches at Auckland, Christchurch, London and San Francisco offices, with snacks and drinks available. Annual wellness allowance of$1,500or local equivalent for gym memberships, physical therapy, etc. Primary caregivers receive 3 months of fully paid parental leave and a flexible return‑to‑work period. Paid 24/7 car park or commute allowance for office or co‑working space commuters. Workspaces designed for collaboration and creativity, with great coffee, social spaces and nearby cafes. Office‑first with flexibility in cities where we have an office, supporting trust‑based time management. Team celebrations: weekly happy hours, monthly lunches, quarterly openers and an annual global off‑site. We are committed to building a world‑class team and ensuring Partly is a place where everyone can do their best work. If you have the enthusiasm to reach this role, we encourage you to apply, and we look forward to learning about what makes you exceptional. #J-18808-Ljbffr
