Job Description
Civil Engineer – 3D Stormwater Modelling (Land Development) We are currently seeking a Civil Engineer with 3 waters experience and specifically stormwater experience for a company building a 3D Stormwater Modelling team for Land Development in Auckland. Responsibilities Project delivery & design Lead stormwater network modelling for greenfield and brownfield subdivisions, including overland flow path analysis, reticulated network sizing, detention/retention, wetlands, and treatment trains (e.g., raingardens, swales, ponds). 3D behaviour stormwater modelling for land development in New Zealand. Build and calibrate integrated catchment models (1D pipes + 2D surface) to simulate flooding, surcharge, and climate‑change scenarios; iterate designs to achieve performance targets and level‑of‑service. Convert model outputs into constructible design: earthworks, outlets/inlets, culverts, WSUD/SuDS details, erosion/sediment control, operation & maintenance considerations. Standards, compliance & consenting Prepare modelling reports and AEE (Assessment of Environmental Effects) inputs for RMA planning processes; support resource and building consent applications (including responses to Section 92 information requests). Align deliverables to relevant local authority standards (e.g., development codes, stormwater guidelines) and national expectations (e.g., climate change allowances, water quality outcomes). Contribute to flood hazard assessments, setting floor levels, and defining no‑build or overland flow corridors. Data, quality & collaboration Own modelling data management (inputs, assumptions, boundary conditions, versions), apply QA/QC checklists, and support independent peer reviews. Coordinate with civil designers, planners, geotechs, transport, and ecology teams; present findings to clients, councils, and mana whenua. Mentor junior engineers in hydrology/hydraulics and good modelling practice. Client & business Engage with clients to scope tasks, define modelling strategy, estimate effort, and manage timelines/budgets. Help develop standards, templates, and digital workflows to lift modelling efficiency and consistency across the business. Key Deliverables Model build notes (inputs, hydrology, boundaries, assumptions, versioning). Scenario dashboards and flood mapping (depth, hazard, velocity), level‑of‑service checks. Stormwater management report for planning and detailed design (incl. pond/wetland sizing, device performance, overland flow layouts). Consenting documentation and responses to technical queries/S92. QA/QC records and peer‑review close‑out. IFC‑ready inputs for the design team and clear O&M guidance where required. Qualifications & Experience BE(Hons) or MEng (Civil/Environmental) or equivalent; Chartered or working toward CMEngNZ (highly regarded). 5–12+ years Civil Engineering experience with 3 waters experience in stormwater and ideally experience with 3D modelling for land development in NZ (or highly transferable markets overseas). Experience preferred with 3D modelling software like DHI MIKE FLOOD or NIWA (in New Zealand or Overseas) Proven delivery of 1D/2D integrated models for subdivisions and structure‑plan areas, including design iteration through to IFC drawings. Strong understanding of hydrologic methods, design storms, temporal patterns, losses, roughness, stability of solutions, and sensitivity/uncertainty analysis. Familiarity with NZ development and consenting context (local authority codes/guides, climate change allowances, water quality/treatment performance expectations). Excellent written and visual communication—clear model reports, figures, and flood maps for technical and non‑technical audiences. #J-18808-Ljbffr
