About the Role Wairau Hospital seeks a permanent part time 0.8FTE (64 hours a fortnight) Emergency Medicine Physician (Fellowship of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine – FACEM or equivalent). As a key member of our Emergency Medicine team, you will play an essential role in providing comprehensive emergency care to patients in Marlborough region. The department offers a broad range of emergency presentations, giving you the opportunity to practice the full scope of emergency medicine in a collegial and well‑supported environment. You will work rostered shifts across Monday to Sunday, including morning, afternoon, and weekend shifts. In addition, you will participate in an after‑hours on‑call roster as part of a well‑structured team. You will also contribute to the supervision and training of registrars, house officers, and medical students, and play a key role in the continued development of our service. About the Team / Service / Location Wairau Hospital's ED provides 24/7 emergency care to a diverse patient population. It currently operates under increasing demand – the department sees 65 patients a day. This equates broadly to more than 22,000 presentations per annum, and likely more as the population grows. Our ED team delivers comprehensive acute care, managing a wide range of medical, surgical, trauma, and paediatric emergencies. We work closely with inpatient teams, primary care providers, and retrieval services to ensure seamless patient care across the region. You will become part of a strong team of FACEMs, emergency medicine medical officers, and emergency nursing staff, supported by an excellent multidisciplinary team across the hospital. The team values a collegial and inclusive culture, strong inter‑departmental relationships, and a commitment to continued quality improvement and excellent patient care. About You Hold FACEM or an equivalent qualification. Have postgraduate fellowship training (preferred). Be eligible for an Annual Practising Certificate and vocational scope of Emergency Medicine with the Medical Council of NewZealand. Have Emergency Medicine experience and knowledge of the unique demands in a provincial hospital.
