The role We are seeking an experienced and visionary Head of English Department to lead, mentor, and grow our English faculty. The successful candidate will be responsible for the leadership and strategic development of English education across junior and senior levels, including NCEA. This is a key middle leadership role within the school and a fantastic opportunity to shape a progressive and supportive learning environment. Key responsibilities Lead planning and implementation of a knowledge‑rich curriculum. Inspire and support a team of English teachers through collaborative leadership and professional development that supports evidence‑informed teaching practices. Oversee assessment practices, tracking of student progress, and use of data to inform teaching. Foster a culture of intellectual curiosity, academic excellence, and scholarly rigour in English education. Ensure alignment with NCEA and Ministry of Education guidelines. Collaborate with SLT to support whole‑school initiatives and student achievement. Involvement in our school‑wide mentoring programme and co‑curricular aspects of the school. What we’re looking for NZ registered teacher. Must have the right to live and work in New Zealand. Proven experience in teaching English at senior levels, including NCEA Level 3. Leadership experience (HoD, TIC, or similar) or strong readiness to take the next step. Strong understanding of curriculum and assessment frameworks. Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills. A commitment to inclusive and culturally responsive practice, including Te Tiriti o Waitangi obligations.
