The Role : Are you an experienced senior nurse passionate about delivering exceptional patient care, improving health outcomes, and leading clinical excellence across inpatient services? We are seeking a highly motivated and clinically expert Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) to join our Medicine Expert Resource Inpatient Team (MERIT) of the Medicine Division. This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in patient flow, discharge planning, quality improvement, and clinical leadership within one of New Zealand's largest and most diverse healthcare environments. The Clinical Nurse Specialist provides senior nursing oversight, advanced clinical expertise, and leadership across the inpatient medicine service. Working closely with Charge Nurse Managers, Service Managers, Medical Teams, Clinical Nurse Directors, and multidisciplinary colleagues, you will help ensure the delivery of safe, high‑quality, patient‑centred care while supporting efficient patient journeys throughout the hospital. This role has a strong focus on: Coordinating patient admissions, transfers, and discharges. Supporting patient flow across medical wards and Middlemore Central. Providing expert clinical care support, leadership and decision‑making. Facilitating timely and effective discharge planning. Enhancing patient experiences and health outcomes. Supporting nursing teams during afternoons, weekends, and after‑hours periods. Driving quality improvement and evidence‑based practice initiatives. About You : Registered Nurse with a current Nursing Council of New Zealand Annual Practising Certificate. Completed Postgraduate Diploma with commitment to progressing toward Master's level study (or equivalent relevant qualification). 5+ years recent post‑registration experience in a relevant clinical setting. Demonstrated senior nursing practice and leadership capabilities. Advanced clinical assessment, critical thinking, and problem‑solving skills. Strong communication, collaboration, coaching, and negotiation skills. Ability to work autonomously while contributing positively to multidisciplinary teams.
