ASSISTANT COOK

We are looking for Assistant Cooks to work for our busy restaurant. Candidates must pass a background check and be physically fit. New Zealand citizens or residents will receive preference. This full‑time permanent role is based in Auckland and requires 32 to 46 hours per week. The minimum wage is $27.00 per hour with a maximum of $32.00 per hour, and overtime is paid at one and a half times the normal rate. Responsibilities Assist in taking food orders, preparing and serving meals, and receiving payments from customers. Assist with washing, cutting, measuring, and mixing ingredients for cooking. Support preparation and cooking of bulk foods. Assist with preparing, seasoning, and cooking menu items in the dining area, buffet, and catering services. Assist in preparing and cooking food to meet special dietary requirements. Operate cooking equipment such as ovens, grills, microwaves, and deep‑fat fryers. Maintain appropriate temperatures of ovens and other cooking equipment. Clean food preparation areas, cooking surfaces, and utensils; keep the kitchen premises clean and well maintained. Portion food and plate dishes, adding gravies as required. Support senior kitchen staff and assist in training team members on safety procedures. Garnish food as requested. Receive, check, and store kitchen supplies and prepare food in accordance with council regulations and food‑safety standards. Estimate food requirements and help plan menus. Ensure the premises are free from fire risks and comply with all fire‑safety regulations. Report promptly to the employer any complaints. Follow instructions from the cook and owner in all aspects of the work. Qualifications Two years of relevant work experience in a commercial kitchen. Ability to assist the head cook in preparing and cooking a variety of Asian dishes with authentic recipes. Sound understanding of health and safety standards in a commercial kitchen environment. Cooperative, respectful, and able to work harmoniously with teammates.
