Job Description
Role Overview We’re growing our Mechanical Engineering team and looking for Intermediate to Senior Project Managers to lead complex, high-impact mechanical projects, based in Auckland. Our projects span across water and wastewater, industrial services, and process infrastructure sectors, with strong integration between mechanical, electrical, civil, structural, and controls disciplines. This is meaningful work with a team that backs good ideas, values straight‑up communication, and knows how to deliver when it counts. In this role, you will lead and deliver mechanical engineering projects safely, efficiently, and to a high standard. Working closely with electrical and civil teams to deliver complex, integrated solutions. Core Focus Areas Mechanical Delivery Project Programming Financial Control Health & Safety Leadership NZS 3910 Key Responsibilities Lead end‑to‑end delivery of mechanical projects, guiding engineers and site teams through procurement, fabrication, installation, testing, commissioning, and closeout. Manage programmes, sequencing, methodologies, and look‑ahead schedules to keep work safe, efficient, and on track. Oversee procurement planning, fabrication, installation, testing, and commissioning activities across assigned projects. Maintain cost control, forecasting, and procurement planning, making smart decisions that protect value for money and keep projects moving. Provide clear project reporting, forecasting, and commercial oversight, using your working knowledge of NZS3910 requirements and project communication processes. Drive practical solutions to technical and delivery issues, reducing disruption and keeping projects on track. Lead quality assurance requirements, including QA documentation, ITPs, FAT/SAT, commissioning plans, and completion records. Review and approve vendor documentation, specifications, installation procedures, shop drawings, and project records. Ensure mechanical completion, as‑built information, O&M manuals, and client handover documentation are accurate, complete, and aligned to requirements. Drive Fulton Hogan’s health and safety expectations, making sure all work is planned and delivered in line with legislation, internal procedures, and project‑specific requirements. Lead risk reviews, SWMS development, and site health and safety leadership activities to support compliance with relevant NewZealand standards, codes, and industry guidelines. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (Civil or Electrical considered where strong mechanical exposure exists). Minimum 3+years’ experience at Project Manager level delivering mechanical scope in water, wastewater, industrial, oil & gas, or process infrastructure, or comparable complex mechanical/operations environments. Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent projects or operational lines. Experience with project programming tools (e.g., MSProject, CCS preferable). Strong understanding of NZS3910 processes: claims, variations, delays, formal notices. Strong financial acumen: cost tracking, forecasting, claims, variations. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. Strong technical knowledge, commissioning and operational completion. Demonstrated commitment to leadership in Health & Safety.
