Job Description

Overview We are looking for an empathetic, knowledgeable, and student‑focused Learning Adviser – Inclusive Learning to join our passionate and collaborative team. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about equity in education, enjoys working in a people‑centred environment, and brings both compassion and practical problem‑solving skills to their work. Key responsibilities Providing one‑on‑one learning support and academic strategy advice to students with disabilities, neurodiverse learners, and students requiring additional learning support Supporting students to develop effective study skills, learning strategies, organisation, time management, and independent learning capability Working collaboratively with students to identify barriers to learning and develop tailored support plans Providing guidance to academic staff on inclusive learning practices and reasonable accommodations Supporting accessible learning initiatives and contributing to an inclusive student experience across the university Liaising with internal teams and external providers to coordinate student support services where required Maintaining accurate records and documentation while managing confidential and sensitive information appropriately Assisting with workshops, resources, and programmes that support student learning and academic success Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives and service development within the inclusive learning team Supporting students with complex needs in a calm, empathetic, and student‑centred manner Required skills and experience Experience supporting students or clients in an education, disability support, learning support, or wellbeing‑focused environment Strong understanding of inclusive learning and accessibility practices Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse student groups Strong organisational skills and ability to manage competing priorities Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with professionalism Confidence using digital systems and Microsoft Office applications Commitment to equity, inclusion, Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and culturally responsive practice Desired additional experience Experience working within tertiary education or student support services Knowledge of disability support services or neurodiversity support practices Experience developing student learning resources or workshops Employment details Full‑time, 37.5 hours per week on a fixed‑term contract until the end of 2027.
