About the Role As a Clinical Nurse Specialist – Emergency Department, you will work at an advanced level of nursing practice to deliver high‑quality care to patients across the lifespan within a busy ED setting. You will function as an expert practitioner, providing clinical leadership, guidance, and support to nursing and multidisciplinary teams. This role integrates advanced assessment, clinical reasoning, and decision‑making to manage complex patient presentations, improve patient outcomes, and support service development initiatives. This is also a fantastic opportunity for nurses who are working toward or interested in progressing along the Nurse Practitioner pathway, with strong support for professional development, education, and clinical supervision. About you As an experienced and motivated senior nurse, you will bring: Registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand and a current APC At least 5 years' experience as a Registered Nurse, ideally within emergency or acute care Postgraduate study (completed or working towards a Master's qualification) Strong clinical leadership, critical thinking, and decision‑making skills A commitment to equity and understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi in practice About the Team/Service The Emergency Department sits within the Acute Integrated & Medical Services (AIMS) Division and provides high‑quality, responsive care to a diverse population. The team is collaborative, fast‑paced, and focused on continuous improvement, clinical excellence, and equitable outcomes for all patients and whānau. Te Pae Hauora o Ruahine o Tararua – MidCentral is a 350‑bed hospital in the city of Palmerston North, Manawatū, a city in the Lower North Island of New Zealand. Palmerston North Hospital is a secondary hospital and offers most medical and surgical specialties with the exception of Cardiothoracic, Plastic and Neurosurgery. The hospital serves a local population of 180,000 but is the base for a regional head and neck oncology service which has responsibility for a population of 550,000 and draws patients from Whanganui, Taranaki, and Hawke's Bay.
