Job Description

We're looking for a Quantity Surveyor who understands how projects actually run. Someone who enjoys being close to delivery, working alongside Project Managers and site teams, influencing outcomes, protecting commercial position, and helping projects succeed. This is not a role for someone who wants to sit behind a desk processing subcontractor claims all day. We're looking for a commercially astute, driven, hands‑on QS who understands the full project lifecycle and takes pride in contributing to successful project delivery. The Opportunity Based in Christchurch, you'll primarily support our South Island operations while providing commercial support across the wider business. You'll work closely with Project Managers, Engineers, Supervisors and clients to drive strong commercial outcomes across a diverse portfolio of civil infrastructure projects. This role offers genuine ownership and accountability. You'll be expected to understand the project, not just the numbers. What You'll Be Doing Cost forecasting and cost‑to‑complete management Monthly commercial reporting and project forecasting Managing upstream and downstream contractual obligations Contract administration under NZS 3910 and NZS 3916 contracts Preparing, negotiating and substantiating variations and claims Procurement and subcontractor management Supporting Project Managers with commercial decision‑making Managing project cashflow and financial performance Identifying commercial risks and opportunities early Supporting tenders and project handovers where required What We're Looking For We're interested in talking to Quantity Surveyors who have: Experience working for Tier 1 or Tier 2 contractors A solid understanding of cost forecasting and cost‑to‑complete principles Proven experience administering NZS 3910 and NZS 3916 contracts Strong variation and claims management capability Experience negotiating complex commercial outcomes A practical understanding of how projects are delivered day‑to‑day Experience working closely alongside Project Managers and delivery teams Strong communication and influencing skills Bonus Points If You Have Experience across three waters, structures, marine or heavy civil projects Exposure to projects involving significant contractual complexity Experience supporting multiple projects simultaneously The Type of Person Who Succeeds Here You'll likely be someone who: Gets stuck in Takes ownership Challenges respectfully Can influence without needing authority Understands that Project Managers own delivery and the QS helps drive successful commercial outcomes Takes pride in doing things properly We're looking for a doer.
