Job Description
About the Role Join the Kapiti Older Adult, Rehabilitation and Allied Health Service as a full‑time Speech Language Therapist. The role receives referrals from primary and secondary health services and involves both outpatient clinic sessions and home visits. Key areas of focus include swallowing and communication difficulties across all stages, caring for individuals post‑stroke, and those with degenerative neurological conditions such as Parkinson’s disease. Occasional attendance at videofluoroscopy appointments in Wellington may also be required. Responsibilities Conduct clinical assessments and deliver therapeutic interventions for swallowing and communication disorders. Provide outpatient clinic services and perform home visits, coordinating care with the multidisciplinary team. Participate in multidisciplinary team and service meetings, contributing patient‑centred recommendations. Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date clinical records and documentation. Qualifications Qualified and New Zealand registered Speech Language Therapist with a current practising certificate. Experience working with older adults experiencing dementia, frailty, stroke, and swallowing and communication barriers. Ability to manage a caseload independently while collaborating effectively with the wider team. Strong written and verbal communication skills for active participation in multidisciplinary meetings. Awareness of social determinants of health and a commitment to culturally responsive practice. Full, current driver’s licence and willingness to conduct community‑based home visits. Team & Service Location The Kapiti ORA team is based largely at the Kapiti Health Centre in sunny Paraparaumu, close to the beach and central to local amenities. The team is multidisciplinary, supportive, and dedicated to patient‑centred practice, often exploring creative solutions to enhance independence and safety for older adults. Collaborative clinical discussions are valued to achieve optimal outcomes.
