Tauranga Hospital – Part‑time Telecommunications Administrator (0.6FTE) Tauranga Hospital offers a part‑time role supporting patient care, clinical teams, and families through communication services. About the Role As a Telecommunications Administrator you are the first point of contact. Must maintain professionalism, exceptional communication skills and a calm approach to ensure people are connected quickly and safely. The role supports patient care teams and families/whānau via phones, call centre, paging system and RTs. Critical as we answer emergency calls for Whakatane and Tauranga hospitals, directing the correct medical team to an emergency in a timely manner. Strong problem‑solving abilities are essential to ensure the smooth running of the service and good outcomes. Introductory six‑week training is provided with the support of a trained Senior Operator. Telecommunications operates 24/7 on shift rotations: morning, day, evening and night shift on a four‑week roster. For this 0.6FTE part‑time position, approximately two night shifts per month are a prerequisite. Shift/roster will be discussed at interview. Key Responsibilities Answer patient care, clinical team, and family/whānau calls. Direct emergency calls for Whakatane and Tauranga hospitals, dispatching the correct medical team promptly. Maintain communication systems (phones, call centre, paging, RTs) around the clock. Resolve issues quickly, ensuring smooth service operation. Follow established processes and protocols consistently. Work effectively under pressure and in emergency situations. Qualifications and Experience Minimum of three years of telecommunications or administration experience. Computer proficiency with intermediate typing, spelling, and grammar skills. Word, Excel and Outlook required. Ability to follow set processes. Competent decision maker with strong problem‑solving abilities and efficiency while multitasking under pressure. Flexible, adaptable to change, and able to work independently when required. Exceptional communication skills and a high level of customer service.
