Role Description The Sports Surfaces Specialist is a full‑time, on‑site role based in Auckland, focused on the construction, maintenance, and enhancement of natural and synthetic sports fields. Day‑to‑day tasks include site preparation, turf installation, drainage and irrigation work, surface repairs, and routine field maintenance. The role involves operating and maintaining relevant machinery and equipment, following project plans and safety procedures, and coordinating with supervisors and team members to deliver work on schedule. The specialist will also assist with quality checks, measurements, and reporting to ensure surfaces meet performance and compliance standards. Regular communication with project managers, clients, and subcontractors is expected to support smooth project delivery. Qualifications Experience in sports field construction, turf care, or groundskeeping, with practical knowledge of natural and synthetic playing surfaces. Background in drainage, earthworks, or civil construction, including skills in site preparation, trenching, and basic installation of pipes or infrastructure. Ability to safely operate and maintain construction and turf machinery (e.g., tractors, mowers, excavators, rollers, and related equipment). Strong understanding of workplace health and safety practices, including adherence to site procedures and use of personal protective equipment. Good physical fitness and capacity to perform manual outdoor work in varying weather conditions. Effective communication and teamwork skills, with a reliable, proactive approach to tasks and timelines. Basic numeracy and measurement skills for layout, levels, and field markings; attention to detail in quality and finish. Relevant trade qualification, turf management certificate, or experience in landscaping, sports turf, or civil construction is beneficial.
