About the Role This role has been specially designed to provide Senior House Officers who are interested in a career in Orthopaedics but who consider they need a little more Orthopaedic experience before taking the step up to Registrar. The run is 6 months in length, after which you will move to the main House Officer team. Predominantly, the House Officer remains in ED seeing Orthopaedic patients but will help in fracture clinics when free. The role is Monday to Friday 0800 – 1600 hours and is categorised as a D Band. You’ll be part of a dedicated team providing comprehensive elective general orthopaedic services, as well as 24‑hour Orthopaedic Trauma and Orthopaedic Emergency care. The scope of your work will be varied and will include exposure to a range of subspecialties: About the Location The main cities and towns in the Southern District include Dunedin, Invercargill, Queenstown, and Wānaka. Southern is world‑famous for its picturesque mountains, fiords, glaciers, coastlines, and lakes that are often depicted on postcards and movies. It is also adventure‑central with a rich cultural and foodie scene, offering a high quality lifestyle to support career advancement. About you Our ideal candidate will have: Registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand or eligibility for general or provisional registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand. We are interested in hearing from RMOs with a minimum of 2 years post‑qualification experience, ideally an RMO who wants a career in Orthopaedics, though we can consider those keen on an ED career. It is a requirement of the Medical Council of New Zealand that your qualifications are approved through EPIC. If you have a commitment to working in New Zealand, it is highly recommended that you start this process early to allow timely registration.
