Job Description

Occupational Therapist – Burns, Plastics and Paediatrics (Maternity Cover) Full‑time, fixed term maternity cover until August 2027. This role is part of the Burns, Plastics and Paediatrics team at Counties Manukau District Health Board. Remuneration is based on the PSA Allied Health MECA guidelines. Responsibilities Conduct comprehensive occupational therapy assessments for patients with burn injuries, plastic surgery, paediatric conditions and scar management. Develop and implement individualized treatment plans, including hand therapy and splinting, to promote functional recovery and independence. Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including physicians, nurses, physiotherapists, and speech therapists, to deliver coordinated care. Participate in the National Burn Centre’s tutorial and in‑service programme, supporting continuous professional development for yourself and colleagues. Provide parent and caregiver education and training to facilitate home care and re‑integration into daily activities. Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with health board policies. Qualifications and Experience NZ Registered Occupational Therapist with a valid Annual Practising Certificate. Previous experience in a similar role, ideally within a burns, plastics or paediatric setting. Demonstrated ability to build relationships with a diverse range of patients, families and professionals. Strong communication skills and the capacity to take direction and provide feedback. Basic computer literacy, including electronic health record systems. Full driver’s licence.
