Te kwhiringa | The Opportunity We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced High Voltage Electrician to join our Generation team based in Palmerston North. In this role, you’ll provide specialist high voltage construction, maintenance, testing and commissioning services across generation assets. You’ll work on a wide range of high voltage equipment including transformers, switchgear, switchboards, cables and rotating plant, supporting critical infrastructure that powers communities. As our projects span across New Zealand, this role will require flexibility and a willingness to travel nationwide to support work where it’s needed. Day to day, you’ll: Deliver high voltage construction, maintenance, testing and commissioning activities Work collaboratively with planning teams and stakeholders to optimise delivery Ensure work is completed safely, on time and to a high standard Contribute to performance reviews and continuous improvement initiatives Provide expert technical support and respond to complex field issues Maintain accurate documentation and reporting for stakeholders Uphold Downers Zero Harm culture in everything you do This is a hands‑on, technical role offering variety, challenge and the opportunity to work on critical energy infrastructure projects. Ng pkenga matua | What We’re Looking For We’re looking for a highly skilled and safety‑focused professional with strong HV experience and a team‑first mindset. You’ll bring: A relevant electrical trade or tertiary qualification Current EWRB registration and practising licence Experience in high voltage installation, maintenance and commissioning Strong knowledge of substations, power stations and HV systems Experience working with HV equipment including transformers, switchgear and cables A good understanding of industry regulations and safety requirements Solid experience using HV testing equipment A current Class 1 driver’s licence (Class 2 & 3 advantageous) Willingness and flexibility to travel across New Zealand for project work Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to work under pressure High attention to detail and commitment to quality outcomes A proven commitment to Health & Safety and Zero Harm principles You’ll also be a team player with a customer‑focused approach and the ability to build strong working relationships.
