Job Description
Senior Geotechnical Engineer – Rotorua Join our Rotorua team and play a lead role in delivering geotechnical engineering projects across the Bay of Plenty. You'll provide technical leadership, project management, and client relationship management across a diverse portfolio of infrastructure, transportation, land development, and civil engineering projects. What You'll Do Lead geotechnical investigations, assessments, analysis, design, and physical works observation across a range of infrastructure and civil engineering projects. Manage projects from inception through to completion, ensuring delivery on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards. Act as a Project Manager or Project Director, overseeing project scope, programmes, financial performance, reporting, and risk management. Prepare project briefs, offers of service, fee estimates, and project delivery plans. Provide specialist technical advice and guidance to project teams and clients. Undertake technical reviews and verification activities to ensure high‑quality project outcomes. Support contract administration activities, including tender documentation, engineering estimates, contract monitoring, and contractor management. Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, contractors, councils, iwi, and key stakeholders. Contribute to business development, proposal preparation, market growth initiatives, and client relationship management activities. Mentor and support developing engineers while contributing to the growth and capability of the wider geotechnical team. About You Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline. Minimum 10 years' experience in geotechnical engineering, including significant seismic and infrastructure project experience. Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) or working towards chartership. Strong technical capability across geotechnical investigation, analysis, design, and construction support. Proven project management experience, including financial management, programming, risk management, and client delivery. Experience preparing proposals, offers of service, and managing client relationships. Strong commercial acumen and ability to identify and support business development opportunities. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build trusted client relationships. Current full New Zealand driver's licence.
