About the role Allied Support Workers work under the direction and oversight of qualified Social Workers and supervisors, enabling the Social Workers to focus on statutory requirements and professional practice. The role is non‑regulated, does not involve social work activities or case load, and does not require a social worker qualification. Location: Invercargill site – Permanent, full‑time position. Remuneration: $68,371 to $75,501, depending on experience. Day‑to‑day responsibilities Provide support across a site on an on‑demand basis based on the team’s day‑to‑day operating needs. Assist social workers in entering case notes and other information into CYRAS and other information systems. Safely transport tamariki and rangatahi for appointments, school and sports. Help set up and handle administrative tasks for Family Group Conferences (FGC). Support and assist social workers with the care of tamariki and rangatahi when out of school or waiting for placements. Make necessary administrative arrangements for tamariki in placement and/or programme transition. Support tamariki and rangatahi at school through settling in or returning after periods away. Conduct supervised access/visitations by driving clients, supervising contact and writing up contact notes. Some weekend and after‑hours work is required. Foster cooperative working relationships with internal colleagues, external partners and stakeholders. What you will bring Experience: Working in the community assisting or supporting people in need. Experience working with Māori and/or Pasifika cultures. Experience dealing with emotional situations and empathy towards people’s challenges and stresses. Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively with peers and other stakeholders. Skills: Well‑developed written and verbal communication and effective interpersonal skills. Ability to maintain a calm professional demeanour in emotionally complex situations and perform under stress. Understanding and appreciation of cross‑cultural practices, including tikanga Māori and Pacific peoples’ culture. Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information appropriately. Ability to uphold the principles of Te Tiriti ō Waitangi and demonstrate this in practice. Intermediate level competence in the Microsoft Suite. Qualifications / Licence: A recognised Social Services qualification is desirable. A clean, current full driver’s licence is essential and willingness to drive Ministry vehicles (historic convictions may be considered on a case‑by‑case basis).
