Contribute to transforming the future of health in this pivotal leadership role Permanent, full-time position | Monday to Friday Based at Middlemore Hospital, Counties Manukau District Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is committed to building a health system that serves all New Zealanders About the Role Reporting to and working in close partnership with the Group Director of Operations (GDO), you will play a critical role in driving planning, performance, and operational excellence across Hospital & Specialist Services (HSS). This position provides leadership, governance, oversight, and coordination to support informed decision-making and successful delivery of organisational priorities. You will act as a trusted advisor and key connector across services, divisions, and leadership teams, ensuring performance expectations are monitored, opportunities are identified, and strategic initiatives are delivered effectively. This role may also lead priority projects and initiatives on behalf of the GDO and coordinate action across multiple Directors, Chiefs, and service leaders to deliver outcomes. About you You are a confident and influential leader who thrives in a complex environment and enjoys translating strategy into action. You bring strong business acumen, exceptional stakeholder engagement skills, and the ability to influence at senior leadership level. You will also bring: A degree in Health, Social Sciences, Commerce, or a relevant discipline, with postgraduate qualifications in health management desirable Strong understanding of the strategic opportunities and challenges across the New Zealand health sector and delivering equitable health outcomes Minimum of 5 years senior management experience within a health environment Demonstrated experience in project delivery, financial management, budgeting, and people leadership Highly developed analytical and conceptual thinking with the ability to provide strategic advice to senior executives Proven ability to lead across diverse stakeholder groups, navigate complexity, resolve issues, and influence outcomes Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to adapt your style across all audiences Strong initiative, sound judgement, and the ability to manage sensitive and confidential information appropriately Working at Health New Zealand Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is dedicated to ensuring excellent healthcare for the people of New Zealand.
