This is a rare opportunity fixed term opportunity until 30 April 2027 to join our high-performing Sector Insights team as a Principal Analyst. Working within Ātea ā Rangi, Strategy, you will provide strategic leadership, expert analytical advice, and evidence-based insights that inform decision-making across the Ministry of Justice and the wider Justice Sector. You will lead complex analytical work programmes, influence senior leaders, and help drive better justice outcomes for Aotearoa New Zealand. This role is ideal for an experienced analyst who enjoys solving complex problems, leading others, and turning data into compelling insights that support real system change. Key Responsibilities Lead strategic analytical work programmes Commission and scope impactful analysis Provide expert advice on methodology and standards Manage large datasets, models and analytical outputs Deliver insights that inform sector decision-making Coach, mentor and develop analytical capability Build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders Drive continuous improvement and best practice Ō Pūkenga/Skills and Experience No candidate will meet every single desired qualification. To Be Successful In This Role, You Will Bring significant experience leading complex analysis programmes Translate technical insights for senior decision-makers Build trusted relationships across diverse stakeholders Coach and mentor others to strengthen capability Bring an understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its application Hold a relevant tertiary qualification You will also have experience managing competing priorities, delivering high-quality outputs, and working confidently within a complex public sector environment. Knowledge of advanced analytical approaches, data visualisation, modelling, research, evaluation, or related disciplines will be highly regarded. Utu ā-tau/Salary The remuneration band for this role is $130,129 to $168,062. While the appointing salary will be based on skills and experience, we are willing to appoint towards the upper end of the range for an exceptional candidate.
