Job Description
Waikato Hospital – Fixed Term, Part‑time Physiotherapist (Acute) Fixed‑term, part‑time position, 0.5FTE (40hours per fortnight) available from11May2026 for 12months covering parental leave. Rostering will be negotiated to accommodate one or two days per week of surgery. About the Role As part of Waikato Hospital’s acute team, you will assess patients, design focused treatment programmes to accelerate recovery, and recommend suitable discharge plans to help patients progress along their care continuum. You will handle respiratory, geriatric, and early‑mobility assessments and all aspects of physiotherapy practice in an academic tertiary hospital setting. Key Responsibilities Assess patients and design focused treatment programmes to accelerate recovery and recommend suitable discharge plans. Perform respiratory, geriatric, and early‑mobility assessments. Carry a full caseload of patients and provide high‑quality, safe and effective care. Manage time and prioritise effectively; be reliable, driven and adaptable. Take on feedback graciously and use it to drive your growth. Collaborate closely with the multidisciplinary team. Contribute to the on‑call service to advance and maintain respiratory skills. Required Skills and Experience At least 2years of acute respiratory experience (preferred). Current NewZealand physiotherapy registration and APC. Passion for learning, adaptability to change and eagerness to gain experience across diverse clinical areas. Evidence‑informed assessment and treatment skills. Excellent time‑management skills. Enjoy mentoring and training junior clinicians and students. Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. Excellent communication skills in liaising with patients, whānau and other health‑care professionals.
