About the Role We have an exciting opportunity for a 12‑month fixed term (starting in September) full‑time Senior Technician role to join our Microbiology AMR team within the Health Security Group, based at Kenepuru Science Centre, Porirua. This role performs routine and non‑routine laboratory analysis of clinical samples, undertakes testing using microbiological and molecular techniques, performs calculations, and interprets results relevant to antimicrobial resistance surveillance and reference testing. Responsibilities Perform routine and non‑routine laboratory analysis of clinical samples. Undertake testing using microbiological and molecular techniques. Perform calculations and interpret results. Assist in antimicrobial resistance surveillance and reference testing. Qualifications Appropriate science qualification at a tertiary level and registration (or ability to gain registration) with the New Zealand Medical Sciences Council. Experience in microbiology principles and practice relevant to antimicrobial resistance, including culture, susceptibility testing, and other related laboratory methods. Ability to handle clinical and surveillance samples appropriately and to prepare reagents accurately. Good understanding of laboratory safe practice, demonstrating Good Laboratory Practices (GLP). Accuracy in numeracy, mathematical calculations and understanding of statistical measurement. Understanding of Quality Management systems, including ISO15189:2022. Computer literacy (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook). Ability to work independently and plan own work schedule. Benefits Flexible working options to support balancing work and non‑work commitments.
