Te Pae Hauora o Ruahine o Tararua | MidCentral is seeking an enthusiastic and committed Clinical Haematologist to join our Regional Cancer Treatment Service (RCTS), with a focus on providing care in Taranaki. About the role This is a full-time, permanent role based in Taranaki, with a strong outpatient focus, ideal for a specialist who values regional practice and enjoys working collaboratively across a multidisciplinary service. You’ll be supported by a wider RCTS team of seven Haematologists and four resident medical officers, based at Palmerston North Hospital. We are ideally looking for someone who has experience and/or a special interest in Haemato‑Oncology, but we are keen to hear from all Haematologists who are interested in the role. Responsibilities Outpatient care for malignant and non‑malignant haematology patients. Oversight of outpatient chemotherapy services. Referral of inpatient cases to the Palmerston North Haematology team. Participation in journal clubs and MDTs via Microsoft Teams with Palmerston North colleagues. Option to contribute to haematology laboratory work. Delivery of video conferencing and phone clinics to support other RCTS regions. Performing bone marrow biopsies and supporting on‑site staff with procedures. Conducting outreach clinics in either or both Hawera and Whanganui. About the RCTS service Te Pae Hauora o Ruahine o Tararua | MidCentral provides Clinical Haematology, Radiation Oncology and Medical Oncology services to the districts that cover the communities of the Manawatū, northern Wairarapa, Hawke’s Bay, Whanganui and Taranaki. This is a combined population of 600,000. The service provides inpatient and outpatient haematology care and manages a wide range of haematological conditions including acute leukaemia, lymphoma, autologous stem cell transplantation, plasma exchange, haemostasis and thrombosis. Inpatient care is delivered at Palmerston North Hospital. Outpatient clinics are run at Palmerston North, Whanganui, Hawera, New Plymouth and Hawkes Bay. The Department maintains an active clinical research portfolio including clinical trials. The service is an approved FRACP training centre and undertakes active postgraduate teaching at House Officer, Senior House Officer and Registrar level. What can we offer you?
