Job Description

Overview Location: Hutt Hospital. Contract: Permanent, Part Time (0.5 FTE / 20 hours per week). Salary MECA Step 3-8 or $88,627 - $110,210 (pro rata). Responsibilities Independent management of own speech caseload, including outpatient and inpatient settings. Apply evidence‑based knowledge, skills and clinical reasoning for both speech and dysphagia needs when providing specialist care. Maintain liaison with key stakeholders in the patient’s environment. Coordinate, facilitate and model high‑quality interprofessional practice. Provide specialist consultation and guidance based on contemporary best practice. Provide clinical teaching to patients, families/whānau, students, staff and other health professionals. Assist in the development of standards, policies, protocols and resources as required. Contribute specialist advice and input into planning and development of services for the future needs of the Cleft Palate SLT team and population served. Team and Service / Location The Speech Language Therapy team at Hutt Valley Hospital provides intervention for disorders of communication and swallowing for all ages across acute, rehabilitation, outpatient and community services. The Wellington Regional service for Cleft Lip/Palate and Velopharyngeal Insufficiency provides MDT intervention from antenatal phase through adulthood for patients in Wellington, Greater Wellington, Mid‑central, Hawkes Bay and Nelson‑Marlborough. About you 3+ years clinical practice (preferred). Direct/indirect management of patients with cleft/velopharyngeal insufficiency independently or under supervision. Experience in assessment, treatment/management of paediatric speech, phonology and language development with strong skills in phonetic transcription and differential diagnosis of speech error-types. Skill in diagnostic therapy where required (highly advantageous). Experience in assessment, treatment/management of paediatric dysphagia (preferable). Experience working within a medical setting (desirable). Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite. High standard of written and spoken English. Qualifications NZSTA Annual Practising Certificate; current member of NZSTA or eligible to become a member. Qualification from an NZSTA accredited or approved Speech‑Language Therapy program (BSc.
