Job Description

Material Handling & Equipment Sales Are you a driven sales professional who wants to own a territory, chase new business, and be rewarded for the growth you create? This is a rare chance to join a growing Christchurch business at an exciting point in its journey — with the products, the backing and the market to hit the ground running. We supply and support material handling equipment across Canterbury, and demand for what we do is climbing. We’re now looking for a Business Development Manager to take the lead in the Christchurch market and surrounding areas — winning new customers, growing existing accounts, and helping shape the next stage of our expansion. About the Role This is a genuine new-business role with a clear runway. You’ll own the Christchurch and wider Canterbury territory, working an established customer base while actively hunting and converting new opportunities. You’ll sell complete solutions — not just equipment — across new and used machines, rentals, service and technology. Reporting to senior management, you’ll be a visible driver of the branch’s growth, with real influence over how we scale. Key Responsibilities Own and grow the Christchurch and surrounding Canterbury territory, balancing new business with existing account development. Prospect, cold-call, visit sites and convert opportunities into long-term customer relationships. Sell complete solutions — new and used forklifts, rentals, attachments, service contracts and supporting technology. Build and manage a healthy sales pipeline, maintaining a disciplined call cycle and knowing your numbers. Develop tailored proposals and quotes that solve real customer problems and win the business. Partner closely with the service, rentals and admin teams to deliver on your promises and keep customers coming back. Represent the business professionally at customer sites, industry events and across the region. Keep accurate records of activity, pipeline and forecasts, and report on performance against targets. Stay close to the market — competitors, pricing and opportunities — and feed insight back into the business. About You You’re a confident, self-motivated salesperson who enjoys the hunt and takes ownership of results. You build trust quickly, sell on value rather than price, and thrive when given the freedom to run your own territory. Proven B2B sales experience, ideally in capital equipment, materials handling, transport, automotive or a similar technical field (highly regarded). A track record of building a pipeline, managing a call cycle and consistently closing deals. A genuine hunter’s mindset — comfortable prospecting and opening new accounts. Strong relationship-building, communication and negotiation skills Commercial awareness and the ability to structure solutions that work for the customer and the business. Self-discipline, drive and the organisation to manage your own territory. A current NZ driver licence. What We Offer Competitive base salary plus a rewarding incentive/commission structure. Company vehicle, mobile phone and laptop. A defined territory with an established customer base and strong new-business potential. The chance to make a real impact in a growing, forward-thinking company where local decisions are made quickly. Clear opportunity for career growth as the business expands. A supportive, collaborative team that backs its people. How to Apply If you’re a driven sales professional ready to own a territory and grow with an ambitious business, we’d like to hear from you. Apply now with your CV and a brief cover letter outlining your relevant sales experience and what you’d bring to the role. Applicants must hold the right to work in New Zealand. Shortlisted candidates may be required to complete pre-employment checks. #J-18808-Ljbffr
