Job Description
Business Unit Cubic Transportation Systems Job Summary Responsible for the management, performance, and completion of single or multiple high‑technology projects that require the development (hardware and software), manufacture, and test of electronic and electro‑mechanical systems. Assures that contractual obligations are met within assigned budget and schedule. Serves as primary contact with customers on projects generally valued $15‑$50million, typically higher‑risk, higher‑value assignments with responsibility at the total system level. Provides support for the Regional Consortium and Auckland NZ programs. The role may change assignment over time depending on business and customer needs across NewZealand. Works under limited supervision and regularly exercises discretionary and substantial decision‑making authority. Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities Manages multiple projects in accordance with contracts, policies, procedures, and department instructions Ensures that contracts are met in the most efficient and profitable manner Serves as primary contact for customers Leads project execution to meet technical performance within cost and schedule, working closely with Engineering, Services and Operations Collaborates and works closely with other Project/Program Managers to resolve conflicting priorities within the overall product portfolio, manage sharing of resources, and maintain effective communication with all stakeholders Manages, oversees, monitors, and approves all elements of assigned project activities from inception to completion—including proposal development, product design, procurement, subcontracting, manufacturing, testing, delivery, installation, and acceptance of products Plans and directs integration of cross‑functional project teams representing various organizations within the company Effectively manages major projects ($10M or greater in sales) Performs project financial management to ensure profit is earned and cash is collected Performs Earned Value management tasks Actively performs and resolves risk management and pursues risk reduction on assigned projects Identifies project issues with sufficient lead time for timely resolution Works to grow the project through contract changes and pre‑planned product improvements Develops proposals for new business Reviews and approves technical approach, feasibility, and cost estimates Leads proposal preparation, statements of work and specifications, estimation of product/service costs, negotiation, and administration of contracts Participates in marketing new technology, developing potential new business, and obtaining follow‑on business with Business Development and senior management May directly manage a team, with associated performance management and review responsibilities General Duties and Responsibilities Comply with Cubic’s Quality Management System Comply with Cubic Occupational Health, Safety and Environment policies and procedures Comply with security in accordance with established policies and procedures Other duties as requested Minimum Job Requirements Qualifications University degree or equivalent in Project Management, Information Systems and Technology Management, Computer Science, or other relevant discipline Project Management Certification in Prince2 or PMBOK Skills / Experience / Knowledge Minimum 10years’ experience delivering projects, including complex technology projects with multiple stakeholder groups Must have appropriate customer experience, varying by project Demonstrated experience working with multiple customers, internal stakeholders, and implementation teams with conflicting priorities Highly proficient in MS Office applications, Microsoft Project (essential), Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams), and Oracle Primavera P6 Scheduling Tool (desirable) Proven ability to manage multiple, high‑value projects simultaneously, including associated project teams Proven ability to be a decisive and pro‑active leader, with people‑management skills Proven ability to contribute to business development processes Personal Qualities Ability to interface professionally with stakeholders, collaborate effectively, and build strong professional relationships Exceptional interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills, able to convey new ideas, issues, and technical concepts to both technical and non‑technical audiences Strong commercial acumen Adaptable and embraces change Good influencing and negotiation skills Highly driven, self‑motivated, and able to work unsupervised Takes ownership of problems and sees them through to the end Establishes priorities and meets multiple deadlines Able to work at a detailed level and step back to a strategic level as required Able to deal with ambiguity and establish structure to provide clarity Equal Opportunity Statement We are committed to ensuring a workplace free of discrimination based on race, color, religion, age, disability, genetic information, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, military or veteran status, or any other basis protected by applicable law.
