Watercare is in the market for 20 Summer Interns to join our 2026/2027 Summer Internship Programme. We have exciting opportunities for tertiary students to join us in 2026/2027 on a 12‑week Summer Internship programme designed to maximise your development. About the Role We have 20 internship opportunities available in the following areas of our organisation. Water Networks Wastewater Networks Maintenance Services Networks Water Transmission Project Engineering Project Management Waikato Water Supply Programme Digital Control Systems Northern Water Production Southern Wastewater Production Engineering Energy Network Contracts Health, Safety, and Wellbeing Science Laboratory Sampling Water Resources – Hydrology Major Developments – Planning Financial Control Stakeholder Relations & Community Engagement In our summer internships, we aim to provide opportunities that meet the following standards: Meaningful: you will do real work that makes a difference to Watercare and Auckland. Supportive: you will have support from many different parts of the organisation, including your manager, a buddy, and the People & Capability team. Developmental: throughout your internship with us you will have opportunities to learn from practical experience, together with some planned learning and development. About You We are looking for motivated students who want to gain experience in the water industry and make a difference. We are considering applications from students studying the following (from 2nd year onwards): Engineering Science Commerce/Business/Marketing/Data Analytics/Information Technology/Finance/Accounting Communications Arts/Psychology/Geography Urban Planning The 12‑week programme will run from the 16th of November2026, with a two‑week business closure period in between Christmas and New Year’s (dates to be confirmed). While our head office is centrally located in Newmarket, a number of these roles are based at locations within the wider Auckland region. Public transport options to some of these sites are limited (such as our treatment plants), so in order to be successful in your application for one of the plant‑based roles you will need your own transport with a full or restricted driver’s licence. Additional requirements: Right to work in NewZealand (Restricted or Full) NewZealand Driver’s Licence – full or restricted Pre‑employment checks (MOJ, pre‑employment medical, references, etc.) to be completed at offer stage. Roles working with wastewater will require you to get some relevant vaccinations for your health and wellbeing, which will be organised by Watercare.
