About the role As a Senior Planner - RMA Consents, you'll help shape sustainable outcomes by delivering high-quality consent decisions. You'll work across a varied portfolio, assessing applications from straightforward to complex, including notified consents, ensuring sound and well-reasoned decision‑making. You’ll act as a trusted advisor to applicants, consultants, and internal stakeholders, and represent Council in mediation and Environment Court proceedings when required. You’ll also contribute to improving planning practices, support wider projects, and mentor less experienced planners to build team capability. This role offers the chance to combine technical expertise with leadership and collaboration. About you You're an experienced planner with strong technical expertise and a collaborative approach. With a solid understanding of the Resource Management Act and other relevant legislation. You will have experience across a range of consent applications, and be confident navigating complex issues, providing clear, strategic advice. You’ll also bring: A relevant tertiary qualification in Resource Management Planning (or similar) At least 5+ years post-qualification planning experience Experience with notified applications and complex consents The ability (or experience) to represent planning matters in formal settings Strong communication skills and the ability to build trust A collaborative mindset and interest in mentoring others Eligibility for NZPI membership. You’re solutions‑focused, a great team player, and motivated to deliver great outcomes for communities. You will also be comfortable working independently while contributing to team success.
