Job Description

Role Overview Auckland Council’s Engineering, Assets and Technical Advisory department is looking for a Geotechnical Engineer to join the Geotechnical team. The role involves collaborating with various council departments, including Planning and Resource Consents, Building Consents, Licensing and Compliance, Resilience and Insurance, Park and Community Facilities, and Healthy Waters to improve information sharing and service delivery. Key Responsibilities Support the assessment of consents by providing geotechnical engineering advice within required timeframes. Provide professional assessments on compliance matters to enable effective decision-making. Record natural hazards and assist with imposing or uplifting Section 73 hazard notices. Undertake geotechnical engineering design reviews of externally provided designs prior to tender. Assist with one‑off emergency responses/recovery for geotechnical events such as landslides and advise on remediation measures. Apply risk management policies and practices. Qualifications and Experience Bachelor’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Engineering Geology, or a related discipline. Experience in geotechnical investigations, site assessments, design support or engineering advisory services, preferably within New Zealand. Sound understanding of geotechnical engineering principles relating to land development, infrastructure, and buildings. Working knowledge of New Zealand legislation, engineering standards and industry practice. Strong analytical, communication and stakeholder engagement skills. Collaborative approach and willingness to learn from experienced specialists while contributing to a high‑performing team. Current CPEng status or ability to obtain it (highly desirable). Full driver licence required. Required to complete pre‑employment drug and alcohol testing (role is safety sensitive). What We Offer Salary of $110,000 – $120,000 plus 3.5% KiwiSaver contribution. Flexible working conditions and option to purchase an extra week’s leave.
