Job Description

We are seeking a practical and safety-focused Paving Operator to join our Dunedin team. This is a hands‑on, field‑based role operating asphalt paving plant to deliver high-quality, roading & footpath surfaces across the Otago region. The role involves operating and maintaining paving machinery, working closely with the crew to achieve program requirements, and ensuring all activities meet health, safety and environmental standards. Key Responsibilities Operate asphalt paving machines, screeds and associated plant safely and efficiently to achieve specified pavement finish and tolerances. Carry out routine maintenance, pre‑start checks and daily inspections on plant and equipment; report defects and organise repairs as required. Promote and follow safe work practices; participate in toolbox talks, hazard identification and the implementation of control measures. What you will bring Proven experience operating asphalt pavers and associated plant in roading or civil construction environments. Practical knowledge of paving processes, materials and basic compaction principles. Current and valid New Zealand driver’s licence (Class 2 required; higher class preferred). Good communication and teamwork skills with a hands‑on, solutions-focused approach. Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions and undertake physical tasks; availability for some night, weekend or on‑call work may be required. Right to work in New Zealand.
