Your Role We're looking for our next Senior Engineer to be based in Napier or work remotely from another city in New Zealand. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will play a key role in the agile Engineering Team; designing, developing, modifying, documenting, unit testing and deploying complex software to the highest level of quality whilst mentoring more junior members of the squad. What you'll be owning Write, generate and maintain high - quality code across complex, distributed systems Work with the product manager and tech lead to define approach and conduct discovery and technical scoping for new features Identify systemic codebase issues and design foundational improvements others build on Diagnose and resolve complex production issues Collaborate across squads on shared codebases and coordinate changes that have wider impact Establish and evolve effective AI-assisted coding practices for the team – coaching others on getting the best from it while keeping engineering quality high Actively mentor more junior engineers through code review, pair programming, and knowledge sharing Collaborate effectively with Product, Design, customer-facing and support teams, translating technical context clearly for non-engineering stakeholders What you'll bring 5+ years software engineering experience Proficiency in C#, ASP.NET MVC, .NET Core and SQL Server Experience developing solutions for the Cloud/SaaS technical web environments – particularly, experience working with the Microsoft Azure platform An ability to write beautiful code that runs quickly and robustly – and initiative to debug, fix and improve existing code A flair for developing excellent user interface and experience Practical experience with AI-assisted development tools (such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot or similar) and a track record of using them to ship and maintain production code An owner's mindset: you take initiative, move at pace, and stay curious about the customer and the product, not just the code Our stack & how we work We're a Microsoft Azure shop, and AI is woven through how we work – not bolted on. Agentic coding is our default: you'll ship features with AI in the loop while keeping engineering quality high, coach the team on getting the best from it, and help improve the prompts and patterns that make it reliable. Our squads manage their own DevOps practices using Terraform to manage IaC and Azure DevOps for code deployments. Experience with any of these technologies or areas is a bonus so make sure to call this out in your application.
