Job Description

Secondary (Years 7–15) / wharekura, Certificated teacher Health and Physical education Heretaunga College is seeking an enthusiastic, relational and reflective Health and Physical Education teacher to join our HPE department. We are a multicultural kura in Upper Hutt, committed to supporting the holistic development of our ākonga. Our HPE curriculum is grounded in Hauora and Te Ao Māori, with learning that connects wellbeing, movement, identity, relationships, leadership, belonging and participation. Our Health and Physical Education department is an innovative and collaborative team with a strong sense of purpose. We are actively strengthening local curriculum, culturally responsive practice, student agency and meaningful learning pathways for our ākonga. Our work is shaped by the values of whanaungatanga, manaakitanga and ako. We believe strong relationships sit at the centre of effective learning, and that HPE has a powerful role in helping young people understand themselves, connect with others, and contribute positively to our kura and our communities. The successful applicant will: have a genuine passion for Health and Physical Education be committed to the holistic development, wellbeing and mana of ākonga build positive, respectful relationships with students, staff and whānau understand the importance of hauora, identity, belonging and participation contribute to a collaborative, reflective and forward-thinking department be open to strengthening Te Ao Māori and culturally responsive practice within HPE support co-curricular sport, physical activity and wider school life hold a current New Zealand practising certificate Applicants qualified overseas must provide NZQA International Qualifications certification with their application.
