Job Description
Senior Producer – Breakfast (TVNZ, Auckland). A senior leadership role reporting to the Executive Producer, responsible for driving a high‑performing team that delivers compelling daily content across the Breakfast show and its digital platforms. Responsibilities Support the Executive Producer, lead and manage a team of producers, reporters and presenters in producing daily content for the Breakfast programme and its digital platforms. Work closely with the EP and presenters to ensure editorially sound content and maintain high editorial judgement and standards. Provide strong editorial direction for Breakfast in conjunction with the EP and the Planning Editor. Lead decision‑making from 4am, deploy resources to maximise coverage of breaking news and events. Communicate and manage breaking news to position Breakfast as the go‑to platform for NewZealanders seeking the latest information. Lead story generation, selection and treatment, and participate in editorial meetings to shape daily content and coverage. Manage two direct reports (Program Producer and Chase Producer), covering leave, sickness and development. Motivate, communicate and train the team to deliver business results, providing appropriate support and delegation to ensure operational excellence. Qualifications Advanced editorial skills – ability to make sound judgement calls under pressure, ensuring news and pictures first. Extensive experience managing hosts and developing relationships to deliver the best programme. Demonstrated ability to understand editorial briefs and maintain high editorial integrity. Experience managing the logistics of programme production. Solid news judgement and proven experience in broadcast journalism and production. Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with a proven track record of leading and developing high‑performing teams. Advanced communication skills, both verbal and written, and experience in high‑level decision‑making. Excellent organisational and project‑management skills. Proven people‑management experience and ability to perform well under pressure and meet deadlines. Tertiary journalism qualification from an industry or recognised institution. Extensive knowledge of industry legislative requirements, practising codes, news and current affairs policies and procedures. Strong knowledge of television operational and production processes, including new technology.
