Mō te tūnga| About therole The Oranga Tamariki Disability Strategy was shaped through extensive engagement with the disability community, including tāngata whaikaha Māori, Pacific disabled people, care-experienced young people, iwi, and whānau. In September 2025, Te Riu (our Leadership team) endorsed a dedicated Programme to support implementation of this Strategy – strengthening how we meet the disability needs and uphold the rights of tamariki, rangatahi, parents and caregivers. The Disability Programme focuses on improving practices and services, strengthening disability data and insights, building capability across all kaimahi, and enhancing our ability to advocate for change across the children's and disability systems. As Project Coordinator, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the successful delivery of the Disability Programme. Working alongside three Project Managers and workstream teams, you will help ensure projects remain organised, well-governed, and on track to achieve their intended outcomes. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to meaningful change that improves outcomes for disabled tamariki, rangatahi, parents, caregivers and whānau, while being part of a supportive programme team and a wider community of project coordination professionals. We particularly welcome applications from people with lived experience of disability and those who bring a strong understanding of disability inclusion and accessibility. Key requirements of the role include: Experience supporting projects or programmes within a complex organisational environment. Strong organisational and coordination skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and workstreams simultaneously. Experience preparing high-quality project documentation, including governance papers, status reports, presentations, meeting agendas and minutes. Knowledge of project management methodologies and experience maintaining project schedules, action logs, risk registers and other project artefacts. Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships across a diverse range of people and teams. Excellent attention to detail, planning and time management skills. A proactive and adaptable approach, with the ability to exercise sound judgement and work independently when required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, SharePoint and other collaboration and project management tools. An understanding of the machinery of government and experience supporting change initiatives would be advantageous. Experience in disability, care and protection, or related sectors would be highly valued. An appreciation of cross-cultural perspectives, including tikanga Māori, te ao Māori and Pacific worldviews, and the ability to apply these in your work.
