Consultant General Paediatrician – Special Interest in Development and Behavioural Paediatrics Position Type: Permanent Part‑time (0.75FTE) Location: Rotorua Hospital, Lakes District of New Zealand About the Role This role offers the opportunity to deliver exceptional paediatric care to a diverse community across Rotorua and Taupō sites. You will assess and manage a wide range of paediatric conditions, with a particular focus on behavioural and developmental issues. Working in a vibrant, supportive environment, you will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to contribute to clinical practice and service development. Responsibilities Assess and manage paediatric patients, emphasizing behavioural and developmental concerns. Provide clinical care across acute inpatient paediatric and level‑2 neonatal settings. Participate in after‑hours on‑call duties on a 1:8 basis (negotiable). Collaborate with senior specialists, registrars, and SHO staff, and liaise with tertiary centres for specialist support. Support service development and contribute to the RACP‑accredited training programme for general and rural paediatric medicine. Engage in teaching activities for medical students and junior trainees. Team and Services The paediatric team consists of eleven specialist general paediatricians, a senior registrar/fellow, three junior registrars, and dedicated SHO support. We maintain well‑established links with tertiary centres and provide a teaching environment for medical students. Qualifications and Experience Full registration with the Medical Council of NewZealand (or an equivalent recognised qualification). Specialist qualification in Paediatric Medicine (e.g., FRACP or equivalent). Demonstrated experience and interest in behavioural or developmental paediatrics. Strong commitment to maintaining a high standard of clinical practice and ongoing professional development. Capacity to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
