Make a Difference for Rangatahi in Kawa Kawa Northland - Counsellor/Social Worker opportunity. We are partnering with a respected kaupapa-driven community organisation that delivers integrated health and wellbeing services across Northland. They are seeking a passionate and motivated practitioner to support rangatahi through school-based programmes focused on mental health, addiction support, early intervention, and wellbeing. This role would suit someone who is passionate about working with young people and comes from a counselling, social work, youth work, mental health, addictions, public health, nursing, or community support background. Whether you are already registered with DAPAANZ or another professional body, working towards registration, or have qualifications that could lead to registration in the future, we'd love to have a conversation. About the Role Working primarily with rangatahi in schools, you'll provide practical support, brief interventions, education, and wellbeing strategies that help young people build resilience and make positive choices. Key responsibilities Supporting rangatahi experiencing mental health, wellbeing, and/or addiction-related challenges Delivering brief interventions, harm reduction, and early intervention approaches Building trusted relationships with young people, whānau, schools, and community stakeholders Undertaking assessments and contributing to support plans where appropriate Providing education and wellbeing-focused guidance to support positive outcomes Working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team Maintaining accurate records and documentation About you Experience providing 1:1 counselling A genuine passion for working with youth and young adults Experience in mental health, addictions, community, public health, or youth services Confident in risk assessment and managing complex needs An understanding of harm reduction and strengths-based practice Strong communication and relationship-building skills Cultural awareness and a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles Full driver’s licence You may have Registration with DAPAANZ, NZAC, SWRB, or another relevant professional body; or Relevant qualifications and experience that would enable you to work towards professional registration; or Recently completed a qualification and are looking to begin your career supporting rangatahi.
